First Time Contest Chair

Johor Jaya Toastmasters Club held its 2012 International Speech and Table Topics Contests yesterday at the meeting venue in Taman Molek, Johor Bahru. I was the contest chair and it was my first time.

I pretty much read the script the whole time and since the script is written in full, my job is made so much easier. There was a little glitch during the timing signal demonstration when the lamp signal was not functioning but we managed to solve it calmly and proceeded.

The funniest part was when I realized that I forgot to jot down contestants’ speech title right in the middle of saying “Our first contestant is..” and abruptly stopped and apologized, followed by asking the contestants to write down their speech title in helter skelter. The call should be “Our first contestant is Andrew Tan. His speech title is Dreams Can Come True. Dreams Can Come True. Andrew Tan.”

We have three contestants in the International Speech Contest. Tey Bin Yuen’s speech title was Living Your Passion and Nikki’s is How To Get Rid of Bad Romance. All three speakers also competed in the Table Topics contest.

Tey Bin Yuen won both contests! 🙂 Congratulations, Tey.
